Due to unfavourable forecast weather conditions and our commitment to keeping our participants, staff and volunteers safe we have made the difficult decision to cancel the Alex Swim on Saturday 23rd September 2023.

The first swim in the Ocean Swim Series will be at Alexandra Headland (Alex), on the beautiful Sunshine Coast. With its pristine sandy shores and crystal-clear turquoise waters, it offers a paradise like setting for locals and visitors alike. The beach is renowned for its excellent surf conditions, attracting avid surfers and water sports enthusiasts. It boasts a long stretch of coastline, perfect for leisurely walks, jogging, or simply basking in the sun. The towering Alexandra Headland Headland provides stunning panoramic views of the beach and is a popular spot for whale watching during the migration season. Additionally, the area offers a range of amenities, including picnic areas, barbecue facilities, and nearby cafes, ensuring a memorable beach experience for all.

*Due to the cancellation of the Alex Swim, these prizes will now be determined by the lowest combined times over the 1.5km swim at the Mooloolaba and Noosa events only.

Course Map

The course starts in front of Alex Skate Park, runs ocean side then loops back around along the beach line and back to the starting point.  Total distances are 3km, 1.5km and 750m.

Event Rules

  1. All swimmers must attend the event briefing held 10 minutes prior to each race start.
  2. Swimmers should ensure they are physically prepared and have appropriate training, including open water swimming experience, and may need a medical check before participating.
  3. Surf Life Saving Australia lifeguards will patrol the course throughout the event.
  4. Medical staff will be present at all events with necessary resources.
  5. If a swimmer is unable to complete the course satisfactorily, lifeguards will bring them to shore.
  6. Swimmers must start the swim within the designated area and assigned start wave.
  7. Swimmers must follow the prescribed course as instructed during the event briefing; failure to do so will lead to disqualification.
  8. Each swimmer must wear the provided cap from the swim pack.
  9. No devices aiding speed, endurance, or buoyancy (except wetsuits) are permitted. Goggles, event swim cap, nose clip, and earplugs are allowed in all events.
  10. Swim paddles or flipper/fins are not permitted.
  11. The Event Director, Event Manager, or lifeguards have the authority to remove a competitor from the swim if judged physically incapable of continuing without risk of serious injury or death.
  12. Except for technical officials or Surf Life Saving Australia, no outside assistance is allowed.
  13. Deliberately obstructing or impeding other swimmers is prohibited and will result in disqualification.
  14. Swimmers are expected to display good sportsmanship. Acts of unsportsmanlike conduct will lead to disqualification, with the determination made at the discretion of the Event Director.
  15. Swimmers must comply with the directions and instructions of all event officials and public authorities.
  16. Swimmers needing assistance should raise one arm to signal water safety personnel. If unable to do so, they should roll onto their back and try to alert a lifeguard.
  17. In case of witnessing an injury, accident, or medical incident during the swim, report it to a lifeguard promptly.
  18. In case of withdrawal, inform a clearly marked event official and return the timing chips to indicate the withdrawal.
  19. Swimmers should exercise caution when swimming around buoys and passing other swimmers.
  20. Swimmers should utilise post-race hydration after the swim.
